Thank you for supporting Australia for UNHCR. Your support is very important to us. As part of our commitment to our supporters, Australia for UNHCR has developed a comprehensive Privacy and Security Policy aimed at protecting your personal information.
Please note that, whilst Australia for UNHCR is not bound by law to be covered by the Privacy Act, Australia for UNHCR has elected to "opt-in" to ensure the most thorough protection of your personal information.
Please read the Policy carefully. If you have any further queries or questions you can contact us directly at the address set out on this website.
Australia for UNHCR is committed to protecting your privacy. Any personal information you provide to us remains private and is only used for the purposes outlined below. We do not rent, sell or exchange our contact lists or any other personal information collected from any of our activities.
Unless you give us explicit consent to act otherwise, the following policy will be applied by Australia for UNHCR in safeguarding the privacy of your personal information on the Australia for UNHCR website.
1. Why we collect information about you
Australia for UNHCR collects and uses personal information provided by individuals during the course of its fundraising and education campaigns. We only collect personal information that is necessary for what we do. For example, when you donate online, we collect your name, email address, mailing address and credit card details. This enables us to process your donation and to send you a receipt either via email or to your postal address.
Supporters may choose to remain anonymous but in this case receipts cannot be issued for contributions.
From time to time we may collect information from you which is used to seek your ongoing support, to research supporter attitudes or for internal reporting purposes. For example, we may record your interest and hobbies etc.
Collection of any further personal information other than that for reasons outlined above will only occur with your consent. Any personal information that you submit will be used to process your donations and is protected by our Secure Socket Layer (SSL 3.0) encryption technology. This technology is widely used on the internet and is the security mechanism that greatly improves security and privacy of credit card payment transactions conducted over the Internet.
We may also use your personal information to send you our publications.
Please note that Internet consumers with browsers not supporting SSL 3.0 or above encryption technology (eg browsers with versions lower than Internet Explorer 4.0 & Netscape 4.01) are not allowed access to payment facility, as transaction details cannot be securely transmitted.
2. How we collect and process information about you
Australia for UNHCR does not use cookies (a cookie is a very small file that stores itself in your browser). Cookies usually include a username and the current date and time, stored on the local computer of a person visiting the site with cookies. The purpose of this is so the given site may be able to identify users who have previously registered or visited the site.
However National Australia Bank will utilise cookies to facilitate credit card payments from our site (online donations only). National Australia Bank captures only the credit card number, expiry date and the amount. The donorÕs individual details are not recorded by NAB.
The information captured by NAB is subject to their Privacy Policy which can be read here at www.national.com.au/About_Us/0,,2692,00.html and is not subject to Australia for UNHCRÕs Privacy Policy. This is because when a donor makes an online donation they are leaving the Australia for UNHCR site, entering the NAB site to process the payment and then returning to the Australia for UNHCR site.
Our site uses Secure Socket Layer (SSL 3.0) encryption technology (as detailed above), we restrict physical access to our office and we use firewalls to keep personal information secure from misuse, loss or unauthorised use or disclosure.
