Help give refugee children an education
One in three refugee children doesn't attend school. And while 80% of refugees are women and children, girls are seriously under represented at school. Two thirds of refugee girls do not progress beyond middle primary. Very few complete secondary school.
Schools form an integral part of most established refugee camps. Beyond simply providing education, they restore hope and a sense of purpose.
There is an acute shortage of qualified teachers and resources for refugee teacher training. Many refugee camps and host communities don't have adequate school facilities, text books or writing materials.
UNHCR aims to be able to provide children with quality education at every stage of the refugee journey - in emergencies like Chad, in long-established camps in countries like Colombia and Uganda, and as part of the return and rebuilding process in places like southern Sudan.
Your Support
Your donation can help provide school facilities, trained teachers, classroom equipment, textbooks and learning resources for children in refugee camps.
"We thank you for helping us... providing us with food, shelter, medicines etc but the best that you have done for us was to provide our children with education. The other things, we will finish them, but education will remain with us, wherever we go.." Somali refugee to UNHCR officer in Kebribeyah, Ethiopia
